Now that the jeep is mobile again, I'm thinking about a cage. I've come to conclusion that I don't want a family style cage, because I don't like how they look and I don't have a family. With that in mind, I've been looking over a few designs:

The cage build in this link has been my favorite for a long time. I'd probably add some door bars and a couple of diagonals, but I like the over all design:

I am all about simple, elegant cages. I hat jungle gyms in Jeeps.

A, B, C (slanted)
Dash bar
Shoulder bar
Door Bars

Triangulate the halo, the windshield and the B Pillar, tie the seats in, tie it to the frame. . .done.

I've rolled a Jeep enough times to know that if you roll hard enough with a cage like that to have the cage design come into play, you are screwed on a few other levels. . .like you lost your arm when it flew out the window and broke both of your legs on the underside of the dash. Maybe even spilled your beverage.

I like that it is based off of the YJ cage. It is fairly simple and looks plenty strong. I would do a belt bar as opposed to his arrangment.

I have been generally happy with the design of mine. I wanted to overbuild it because I plan to back half the frame and integrate the cage as the top half of a 'juggy'.

The main design feature that I wanted was a single side rail for the a-b-c. This allows smooth sliding past trees and rocks without getting hung up.

I also pulled the base of the A pillar back away from the dash so there was less of a bend there.

I also like the placement of your B-pillar to make the diagonals and the belt bar simpler.

Thanks, that did work out pretty handy. The B pillar is mounted to the top of the fender. The trade off is the frame tie in(not pictured) rubs on the tires when they are flexing.

I really like your cage. Is it an optical illusion, or is the side bars (a to b pillar) of the cage not parallel with the rockers? Do you remember how many feet of tube you used?

Thanks, there is some optical illusion in there. The A to B does run up hill. The spreader bars don't really kick up, they are actually fairly parallel to the rockers. Also, the B tips forward where most are normally straight or leaning back.

I have a couple of well read XOM mags that I used for inspiration on that project.

Including the seat mounts probly just north of 160' I only had one die at that time, now I would probably make the seat mounts out of 1.25"
