Post School me on welders....
So I think I finally need to buy one of my own, too much work depending on my friends all the time and to the point where there a lot of little things I'd like to weld up real quick myself.

Doubt I would ever do much heavier welding that 1/4" steel or so. I know we have a newer Lincoln wire feed of some sort at work that is 110v and does decent on what we use it for. I know that both welders used for my suspension on the Mazda were 110v units and that has held fine.

Just need to weld misc. brackets and stuff to the Jeep and what not, some sheetmetal body work stuff, and would like to finish up my small utility trailer.

I know the one at work was like $700 new with a new bottle and such. Don't want to spend that since I won't use it a whole lot so been kinda looking on craigslist but don't really know what is what and everything looks well used and abused. I'd love to spend like $400 or so on a nice complete used setup but we'll see. Not exactly sure what I am looking at anyways.

$700 new is a good price for a complete, quality small welder package. When buying used it's hard to judge by looks as to the condition of the machine. My 110v Lincoln was never covered up when the p/o would paint cars so it had lots of overspray on the outside, but the unit works great! And I was willing to take the risk for $250!!!

It sounds like you have an idea of what you want, 110v mig, gas bottle w/ regulator, maybe a cart thrown in

I would stick with name brands Lincoln,Miller, newer Hobarts

Don has a Hobart Handler 140 that runs great. 140 amps! My little Lincoln is only 100 amps but still handles every thing I ask of it.

Yeah, I was just looking at some remanufactured Hobart Handler 140's online for about $460 shipped. There is also a 5 year old Hobart Handler 135 on TC for $250 that I might consider. I really just want to get my little trailer done and then just have the welder in case I need it ya know.

Hobart Handler 135 is what my secondary/backup/110 welder is. I used it for EVERYTHING for years before we got the Lincoln 220v unit. I think it would handle all of yours needs very nicely.
